5月12日下午2点28分，四川汶川发生7.8级大地震。我第一时间看这个消息是在U3群里，由于U3群里的成员都是来自全国各地做U3财务软件技术支持的工作人员。当时一北京的工作人员突然发出消息，问：“你们那地震吗？北京出现楼房晃的感觉。”当时我还没反应过来，从没听说过，最近各个新闻也没报道预测有地震。随后各个地方的工作人员发出消息，有的说有，有的说没感觉到。紧接着腾讯网发出消息：“5月12日14时28分， 四川汶川县发生7.8级地震，造成四川、甘肃、陕西、重庆、云南、山西、贵州、湖北8省市不同程度受灾。同时这次波及范围之广，从北京到海南、上海、江西等省市都不同程度的感觉到晃动。”看到这个消息的那一刻，由于当时报道只说震级，没有涉及到人员伤亡。于是我们办公室的4个人就在一起回忆唐山大地震的震级。我们感觉四川汶川发生7.6级大地震和唐山地震的震级差不多。但是当时唐山地震伤亡人数非常多，危害惨重。我们还在讨论难道是现在的建筑物坚固，结实，所以地震造成的损失没有唐山地震那么大？
